Community Development
Community Development is about making it possible for citizens to increase their ability to play a role in shaping the society of which they are a part.

It is difficult to quantify the extent the role the community sector has played in the development of a community infrastructure in Drogheda.  What is clear is that Drogheda has a vibrant and active community sector participating at a local, county and regional level, which is due in, no small measure to the contribution of community volunteers.  Drogheda Partnerhsip has had a lead role in supporting this development.  The contribution of the community sector has improved the lives of many people in need over the past 10 years.

Drogheda Community Forum

The Drogheda Community Forum with the support of Drogheda Partnership has played a pivotal role in the provision of training and support for local groups.  The Forum has their own presmises and now access funding from the Peace 2 Project and have been successful in setting up the Drogheda Volunteer Centre Ltd.

Their groups are now represented on the South Louth Forum, Louth County For a, S.P.C.'s, C.D.B., S.I.M. and National County For a.  The Drogheda Community Forum have played a lead role in developing policy and practices at Board and Committee levels of the Drogheda Partnership throughout the past 10 years.

Community Development works towards helping groups and specific communities to have a say and to influence the decisions and prcoesses that affect their everyday lives.

In the past ten years the voluntary community groups in Drogheda with the support of the Drogheda Partnership have worked together to ensure the voices of the most in need are heard.

Community Development believes that the ability to participate fully in community life is open more to some groups and individuals, therefore the priority of the Drogheda Partnership is to engage with the most marginalised and socially exclided groups and communities.
